Marlborough Nursery is a large production nursery situated in South East Queensland supplying the retail trade with large volumes of high quality containerised indoor flowering and foliage plants.
The business specialises in the production of Anthurium, Bromeliad, Spathiphyllum and Orchids along with foliage plants including Aglaonema, Alocasia, Calathea, Dieffenbachia and Stromanthe. Currently the distribution of these lines extends from Cairns to Adelaide with a large trade into New South Wales and Victoria.
Marlborough Nursery began in 1979, at Wellington Point, as a small ‘back-yard’ hobby production nursery that has grown into one of the largest in Australia for the crop lines produced.
The business is owned and managed by the brothers, and joint Directors, Gary and Terry Spink. We contribute to the Australian Nursery Industry by participating in peak industry body committees and believe that it is important to contribute to the betterment of the industry.
Over the last few years observations and assessments have shown that the market has shifted towards a more diverse range of foliage plants including a diversity of colour and flower.
Based on this data Marlborough Nursery have undertaken a complete range review to shift the focus to flowering indoor plants which now make up approximately 65% of turnover and highly coloured foliage plants taking the remaining 35%.
Marlborough Nursery is a professional operation that has achieved NIASA accreditation in 1995, EcoHort accreditation in 2006 and finally BioSecure HACCP on the 30 th of September 2022.
Marlborough Nursery is in the first 10 nurseries in Australia to achieve BioSecure HACCAP.
BioSecure HACCP is the industry specific biosecurity program designed to assist growers in assessing their current and future pest, disease and weed risks, and guide businesses in the implementation of management strategies at critical control points.
A Program for Producers
BioSecure HACCP is the on-farm biosecurity program for production nurseries in Australia. The program validates many of the best management practice strategies employed under the Nursery Industry Accreditation Scheme Australia (NIASA). It seeks to identify internal and external (endemic and exotic) threats to the integrity of a business’s biosecurity processes and preparedness.
BioSecure HACCP is a set of protocols and procedures that enables a business to manage biosecurity risks establishing an effective internal quarantine process for both imported and exported plant material. The BioSecure HACCP risk management system encourages industry businesses to maintain the strictest internal quarantine procedures possible and record the actions taken at critical control points. Having a sound risk management strategy such as this ensures industry businesses remain protected from biological risks.
